Appearance:
Very human-like look, black fur w/ human-like ears, big hands, & big lips, males fitter & larger than females, females skinnier & less fit, males have long canine teeth.

Food/Diet:
Fruit, seeds, pith, flowers, bark, resin, leaves, buds, shoots, bulbs, blossoms, berries, nuts, termites, ants, other insects, eggs, birds, monkeys, pigs, duikers, antelope calves, bushbuck, sitatunga, small mammals, baboons, goats, carrion

Endangered

Breeding in zoos & wildlife centers

Lifestyle:
Troops of 20-150 chimps made up of many different smaller sub-troops. Alpha male leads the troop.

Main predators of adults are leopards, lions, crocodiles, & pythons. Baboons prey on young.

If male from neighboring troop found in troop territory, party of male defenders ambush, stomp & bite victim until it dies. Some relations between neighboring troops can be deadly to the point of tribal warfare.

Endangered due to deforestation, habitat loss, logging, mining, human encroachment, bushmeat trade, collection of infants for pet trade, medical research, disease, & civil war.

Very loud animals & well known for pant-hoot call.

They don’t like water.

They are known for knuckle-walking.

Fun Fact(s):
THEY CAN BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS-THIS ESPECIALLY APPLIES TO LARGE MALES BUT ALSO TO OTHER CHIMPS, TOO. THEIR CANINE TEETH CAN DO A LOT OF DAMAGE & A MALE CHIMP IS 5 TIMES AS STRONG AS A MAN. GENERALLY, THEY HAVE WIDE RANGE OF TEMPERAMENTS.

A chimp named Washoe learned more than 250 signs in ASL.

A chimp named Ham went into space.

They share nearly 99% of DNA with humans.
