Main predators are felids, bush dogs, raptors, snakes, tayras, coatis, & crocodilians.

Threatened due to deforestation, habitat loss, pet trade, hunting for meat, & disease.

Troops are territorial but rarely get into actual fights instead relying on calls.

Females sexually mature at 8.5 months old, males at 1 year old.

Father plays strong role in upbringing of young.

Troops use up to 40 different calls to warn of predators/rival troops.

Conservation groups helping educate native peoples on this species.

Named after Swiss naturalist Emil August Goeldi.

Unlike other callitrichids (marmosets & tamarins), they have 3 molars as opposed to 2.

Wasn’t discovered by Western science until 1904.

Callimico means “beautiful little monkey” in Spanish.

Can leap 13 ft without loss of height.

Though fairly gentle animals, they don’t make good pets & can bite if provoked.

Unlike other callitrichids, which give birth to twins, most offspring are born single.
