Main predators are larger birds, snakes, felids, monitor lizards, crocodilians, bears, weasels, civets, monkeys, & pigs.

Like most fruit doves, they’re very shy.

Green feathers help in camouflage.

Males announce breeding territory by raising wings & cooing w/ head moving forward & bobbing body up & down. If that doesn’t work, he’ll peck at rival male.

Females usually lay 1-2 eggs.

Stable but declining due to logging, habitat loss, hunting, & bird/pet trade.

Sexually mature at 6 months old.

Male collects nesting material for female, who builds flimsy nests of twigs/roots/grasses.

Males get adult coloration by 9 months old.

Active during the day (diurnal).

Both parents incubate eggs.

Due to exclusively frugivorous diet, they play important role in seed dispersal.

Courtship involves male cooing & pair sitting closely together.

Squab (s) stay w/ parents for up to 6 months.

Fun Fact(s):
Wings functional before eyes even open.

Like other pigeons/doves but unlike most birds, they can put entire bill into water, drinking by sucking in.

Often follow hornbills & monkeys (both potential predators), eating fruit knocked off by them.

Like many pigeon/dove species, they feed young crop milk.

Jambu means guava in Malay.
