Appearance:
Females duller than males being buffy w/ greenish back/wings, pale throat, faint black mask. Males have turquoise to dark-green to bluish wings/tail, males in W/N part of range have orange-rufous crown/black mask/cream underbelly & violet-gray throat, males in E/S part of range have orange-buff crown/buff underbelly w/ black patch extending from mask over throat/central chest to mid-belly, males in parts of NE Brazil (especially Marajo Island) have intermediate appearance between W/N & E/S populations, rather small compact bird.
